How EaseUS System GoBack Free works?
EaseUS System GoBack
Free mainly targets Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users but the product works on Windows XP and Vista too. To use it properly you will need to backup your old system's hard drive (partition on which your old Windows is installed) before you upgrade to Windows 10. If you first upgrade to Windows 10 you won't be able to downgrade OS using this or any other third party software.
After you lunch System GoBack Free you will see modern but very simplistic user interface that has only two buttons: "Backup System" and "Go Back". There are no other options which makes System GoBack Free incredibly easy to use. Main screen also shows the location where backup will be stored, and where image needs to be placed to make downgrade. There is no option to change the location what we find as minus so be sure that you have enough free space on that location. Software automatically chose location based on available free space on disk partitions. In our first test software chose partition with most free space. In our second test we have added external hard drive so the software chose it.
Option "Backup System" creates a full system image of the disk partition on which current Windows OS is installed. Backup process is relatively quick – our test partition had 43GB of data (including Windows OS) and backup process took about 35 minutes. The time required to complete the backup depends on the amount of data and your system specifications. If your backup process is interrupted for some reason it will be continued the next time you lunch the program. Once started, the process can't be aborted by user which we also find as minus. There is a progress bar on user interface which shows backup progress. Backup is stored in PBD format which only this application can read.
The great thing about this product is that it uses extremely low amount of system resources which is due to fact that it is based on popular commercial product EaseUS Todo Backup's engine. During backup process in average used less than 20% of CPU and about 140 MB of RAM. Average disk write speed was 30MB per second.
Once backup is over you can upgrade your OS to Windows 10. Once upgraded, if you don't like Windows 10 you can downgrade to your old OS by lunching EaseUS System GoBack
Free and choosing option "Go Back". Software automatically detected location where backup was created. Same as with backup you can't choose other location so make sure that backup is on location shown on main screen. Our restore process took about 30 minutes and after software automatically restarted PC our new old OS was ready to use. All software products and games worked and all our other data was back on it's place.
